I remembered clearly that my mentor once told me if I could not get the result I want, then maybe there is something I do not know. Additionally, near the end of 2017, I asked myself what is ONE habit that I want to develop. These two ideas kept revolving in my head.
Since my schooling days, I was already interested in the financial market even though I took up Aerospace Electronics for my diploma. How weird that is? The financial market is something I had very little knowledge of, yet I want to be part of it. So this is the “something” I do not know much about. Back to end of 2017, I went online to find out more about the different financial market wizards and business owners – most encouraged this one habit. That is to read. Hence, I decided that I am going to develop the habit of reading and particularly more into the area of investing.
CHALLENGE MYSELF
I thought 52 books in one year (1 book per week) is a great challenge. The mentality of “Let’s try it! Let’s challenge myself!” got me excited. To my surprise, I completed reading 69 books in 2018. Yes I did keep a record of the list of books I completed. How did I read 69 books? I read while taking public transports, after meals, during weekends, while for waiting for certain appointments etc. while more people spent their time on their mobile phones. I chose to read instead of using my mobile phone.
Most books are on investing and about investors or entrepreneurs sharing their journey and experiences. All their lifelong experiences and knowledge packed into a book! How valuable that can be! There are a few books on personal finance and simple living as well.
In 2019, I am going to slow down on my reading and in fact spend more time on practical application of the knowledge acquired. Knowledge compounds but gathering knowledge mindlessly is of no benefit if it can’t be put into good use.
Scroll through the list and let me know if there’s any book that interests you. Thanks for reading.
